I'm actually not involved in pr at all but am allways looking for ideas to market my new foundation. I've just registered a non profit that will build local hospices for children that are not expected to live to adulthood. I welcome any market niches you proffessionals have come across that might work for someone new to this. I am looking for marketing ideas that are outside of the box...

Hi Mary, Sounds like a great cause. May I suggest that you post a new topic and provide some more details regarding how the orginization is planning on promoting the venture. Perhaps ask some specific questions. Thanks

Hey good luck with your next big thing. My background is in sales and marketing. Mostly interactive (web) marketing and more specifically permission and loyalty campaigns. I'm here to glean form those who have gone before.

I'm willing to share any ideas to help you reach your targets.

    Cheers!

    Hi
I am a marketing person who has done some pr and now is using social networks to develop brand loyalty. Instead of using tribe and subcatorgories we create branded networks for companies and organizations who need and want them. One of the public ones is Always On www.alwayson-network.com which we created for Tony Perkins of Red Herring mag. Anyway there is a movement for direct communications where blogs can replace traditional media channels. This sets up two difficult things. There is not the filter of the reporter to challange and there is not the fact checking needed. However the function of the viewer because it is interactive is to ask the quesitons and rate the information. This sort of direct exchange is the next big thing. The data captured over time is valuable.

Good for you for starting a tribe. Feel free to add me to your network.

Hello all, I'm a recent Marketing and PR graduate and am in the midst of transition between school and the work world. Although my school days are done (for the moment) I’m always looking for new ideas and information in the field of Marketing an PR. Hopefully I will be able to add positive perspectives and I'm looking forward to reviewing all of the experiences and expertise that you, as seasoned professionals, have to offer. Thanks.

Hello there! I'm a recent college graduate who was heading to Manhattan to work for a fashion magazine until, that is, I had an eye-opening experience last summer working for a camp for children affected by HIV/AIDS. Since my priorities have shifted completely, I took the year to travel and find a new direction... and I've decided on moving to San Francisco to get some experience in an agency setting, so I may move on to media relations with nonprofit foundations. I would love to hear any advice/words of wisdom about breaking into the market at the entry-level. Thank you!

Hi there, I'm Jennifer. I've been doing PR for about 10 years in all settings - from agency to inhouse and freelance. I know a lot of tricks as when you freelance you have to work with a limited budget. Lookng forward to "meeting" you. I currently reside in sunny Santa Monica, CA.

        Hullo!

I'm a baby in the industry. I'm a year away from graduating with a BS Business/Marketing. I'd been recently laid off from my job in escrow, and decided to take the summer to seriously pursue my interests in Marcom/Corpcom/PR.

I'm excited to say that I was able to land a PR internship with an international travel & tourism company just last week, so I'm sure to turn to you folks (and any other leads you can offer) for some advice.

        Cheers!

Sure, I'd be glad to offer suggestions... but first, give us a little background and a pitch on why you would be a killer PR person ; )

I'm a retired teacher who was the PR director of the teachers union. Negative media about unions from the Gannett newspaper, coupked with a high concentration of conservative republicans in our school district made it necessary for us to start a PR campaign. In a short period of time we turned it around. A combination of intense ongoing community service, inhouse newsletters to spur members in that direction and just nurturing press relations helped us. Even two years after I retired, they have little problem passing school budgets, settling contracts or keeping the most negative candidates off the school board.

Now my concern is in promoting myself as a singer songwriter in a small market. There's lotsof information on the subject but it's hard to be a performer and a PR/promotion/marketing/booking agent guy for yourself at the same time. Anybody with that kind of background out there? BudBuckley.com

    Hi!

I am a futurist and brand designer. While posting on another thread and thought, 'How cool. There's a PR tribe!" I'm going to find the branding tribe. When I went to find it, there was a tribe, but it wasn't the communication tool of the 21st century I help create, it was, well. you get the picture. So, I started a brand design tribe. I welcome you to join. branddesign.tribe.net/

sorry about the late intro... I have been doing PR for a little over seven years and was a reporter for 10. I am a "political media consultant" basically helping politicos position themselves to get in and stay in office. I also work with small businesses and individuals.
