Hi! I have recently changed careers from the techie side of the dot com world into the more touchy-feely world of MArketing and PR. I am currently doing marketing for a construction company, and need advice on promotion. I'm developing the marketing collateral, plus outsourced some very high end brochures/website/CDs.
My question is: what is the best way to research and figure out a particular demographic? The company wants to transition into clients who want to build homes in the $1 million + range.
Also, any other PR/Marketing tools and tips would be greatly appreciated.
Sam

Re: Tips for Newbies
Thu, May 27, 2004 - 12:17 AMHey Spaceman,
A few idea's/resources off the cuff.
The first thing that I would do is plan a grass roots set of breakfasts/coffees or lunches within the companys service area to pick peoples brains and forge new relationships. On my list would be:
realtors, bankers, major contractors, the person that covers real estate for the local newspaper...who you'll need to know anyway. Shoot them a quick email or call introducing yourself and let them know that you'd like to meet them "sometime". Firm up from there.
American Demographics Magazine is a great resource. Try playing with the search on findarticles.com
goleadsresidential.com could be invaluable to you once you have an idea of who you're looking for... or...for example, these list brokers will allow you to buy a list sorted by any number of factors ...for example... people who have lived in their present home valued over $8,000,000 for more than 7 years, with good credit.
Also, Your local Chamber of Commerce may sell a monthly list of those who are looking to relocate to your area. Sometimes, they make a note of the callers profession.
Hope this helps! -

Wed, May 28, 2008 - 6:04 PMTo follow up on jack's suggestion about lunches, especially if you're targeting higher income folks, see if there's a vintner or a wine shop around that you could host a wine tasting through. You wouldn't believe the amount of networking that happens at a wine tasting.

Wed, June 16, 2004 - 8:57 PMHi Sam,
As a former marketing coordinator in the A/E industry, I'd recommend checking out the Society for Marketing Professional Services:
www.smps.org
This is a group for marketing professionals working specifically in your field, and a great resource. Their listserv is also quite active and would be an ideal place for your post.

A secrete
Sat, September 22, 2007 - 1:02 PMhi sam me sam too, when it comes to people and stats its best to do it unknowingly cause people LIE. i work with fake friends and bypassers. fake friends are strangers that u meet and strike up conversation with u will hire and place them at exclusive decor exhibitions for example. And bypassers give u a heads up on potential clients like architects and local council who do plan approvals.
