Anyone care to share how PR has changed over the past 12 months or where you think the practice is headed?

blogging has become a force of reckoning for branding.

Interactive entertainment has continued to prove itself a tour de force in online marketing using simple viral marketing- as subservient chicken (and the beer subservient waitress) has proven.

Blogging means "Web Log." A written journal of your thoughts on particular subjects.

There's also audio blogging which is a spin-off of both iPodding and it's earlier relative "internet radio."

I think a lot of people are jumping on the blogging phenomenon without any regard if it would fit in with the client's overall marketing strategy. One thing about blogging, like all viral marketing strategies, is the credibility of the blogger when delivering the message and the intended audience of the blog itself for it to work.

There are many bloggers out there that are so obviously paid spokespeople that no one reads them.Anyhooo...my 2 cents.

Alok- I agree, but isn't that the case with all marketing mediums? If it's cheesey and cointrived- it's the object of scorn. If it's polished and professional; ei: well done: it's not just successful in practice, it's also the object of accolades and case studies.

That's the case with traditional advertising, marketing and PR campaigns though- if you send out a press release that sucks- it won't get picked up. If you air a radio ad with a weak message, you won't get the conversions. If you have a blog is of sub par quality, it will not drive traffic.

The old media is subject to quality 'survial of the fitest' and the new trends are no different.

"If you have a blog is of sub par quality, it will not drive traffic."

I would say what makes a blog of "quality" is defined not necessarily the professionalism of the blog, but quite possibly the "unprofessionalism" of the blog. Seems to me that it is about the authenticity of that voice, that the writer is unafraid to share his/ her opinions and is not afraid to be snarky, sarcastic, opinionated and shocking that makes people keep reading. For example there was a very well read political "blog" in San Francisco. Everyone read the thing who cared about SF politics. The author of said blog could barely string a sentence together in a proper grammatical form and the thing was riddled with misspellings. However, he ALWAYS called it like he saw it and usually nailed the situation with what the reader thought in the back of her mind without wanting to admit to it. I think it is hard to capture that authenticity if you are trying to sell or spin something.

I recently ran across the following blog on NARAL that I thought was interesting: bushvchoice.blogs.com/

For a blog to promote an established national nonprofit, it has a nice voice. It takes risks and comes off as pretty credible.
